A CD of PREVIOUSLY UNRECORDED MUSIC FOR STRING ORCHESTRA BY BRITISH COMPOSERS
Performed by the superb COUNTESS OF WESSEX’s STRING ORCHESTRA
British String Music and Light Music at its very best!!
Conducted by Major David Hammond
Produced in collaboration with the Corps of Army Music Trust, this is a programme of British music for string orchestra performed at Investitures at the Royal Palaces and includes previously unrecorded gems by composers such as Thomas Dunhill, Roger Quilter, Alec Rowley, Frederic Curzon, Bertram Walton O’Donnell, William Speer, Ernest Markham Lee and 7 bonus tracks of music by Giles Farnaby, arranged by Sir Granville Bantock. Also there are beautiful light music arrangements of melodies such as Annie Laurie, Blow the Wind Southerly, Shenandoah and Billy Boy.
The Countess of Wessex’s String Orchestra is truly a national treasure. Based in the former Royal Artillery Band HQ at Woolwich, it is a string chamber orchestra of truly excellent performers, all full time serving members of the British Army demonstrating absolutely first class playing and musicianship. One major part of their schedule is to perform at Buckingham Palace during Royal Investitures. Recorded by classical recording legend Tony Faulkner in the sumptuous acoustic of the Guards Chapel in London and produced to the highest standards by Mike Purton, this CD is a must for any lovers of beautiful and traditional British music, here with a truly Royal connection. Under the sensitive direction of Major David Hammond, this is a most pleasant and delightful addition to our catalogue.
