Music for Trombone(s) and Orchestra with Joseph Alessi (Principal New York Philharmonic, Blair Sinclair and Christian Jones (Opera North Leeds UK)

This is not just a series of fabulous music for solo Tenor Trombone, Bass Trombone and all three together, but it is a showcase for the wonderful and very listenable music of Benjamin Ellin, who also conducts. Once you start listening to this CD, you will not be able to stop, the music is so attractive and compelling and it is wonderfully performed by three great trombonists and the superb Orchestra of Opera North in Leeds, Yorkshire, UK. The programme includes ‘Pandora’ for Tenor Trombone and Orchestra, performed by the great Joseph Alessi and ‘Gresley’ for Bass Trombone and Orchestra with the equally great Bass Trombonist Christian Jones. ‘Gresley’ was inspired by the life of locomotive designer and railway engineer Sir Nigel Gresley, who designed Mallard, the legendary steam locomotive that achieved an unequally world record for steam traction of 126 miles per hour in 1936. There is also ‘Stow Sketches’ - a trio for three unaccompanied trombones and a work for the three soloists with orchestra - ‘Windows’.
